More cancellations – Covid-19….
March 19th – Just one curve ball after another. We thought we had a plan and we could just enjoy the next two weeks of being in NZ. We started to think about where and what we would like to see on the south island. Was there anything more we wanted to see and do on the north island? Until we go this little news announcement…
Air Canada announces it is no longer doing long haul flights after March 31st. Well, that is a problem since we have a flight booked April 1st. April fool’s joke? Nope. Once again, we are left to figure out what this means for us. Really starting to feel a little deja vu here.
And just to add to the fun pile, NZ shut it’s border down to everyone except citizens/resident. So, things are starting to get a little more serious here now too. Which means we won’t be travelling around the country. Ok no prob. Not feeling anxious at all. Not panicked and definitely feeling relaxed. How much wine do we have in the room?
Ok. So there is nothing we can do. Literally nothing we can do at the moment to deal with the situation. With the time change, everything in Canada is closed. And because we didn’t get this announcement until late in the day, the consulate office in Wellington is now closed. We will just have to wait and call the consulate and travel agent tomorrow to see what options we have left. If any.
Take out pizza is on the menu tonight. A low key night. Rain makes that easy. We sent an update to our friends in Auckland and they confirmed that things were starting to change in Auckland as well. They noticed signs in the grocery stores limiting certain items already. They asked us to stop in at the shop here in Paihia to pick up a couple of items. Feeding 8 needs some logistical planning.
Ok. Well, nothing more can be said or done. Pizza time.
